Barry Ferguson ‘should leave Rangers’ as Steven Gerrard claim emerges
Barry Ferguson may not be the right person to lead Rangers as they look to compete with Celtic once again, Chris Sutton says.
The Gers icon was appointed interim manager after Philippe Clement’s dismissal at Ibrox, but he’s been unable to change the Glaswegian outfit’s fortunes.
Ferguson’s record in the Scottish Premiership has been underwhelming, and it would arguably be surprising to see him continue at the Light Blues beyond the current campaign.
The Bears have a crucial transfer window coming up as they’ve seen themselves fall behind Celtic over the years, and doubts have been raised about Ferguson’s potential impact on new signings.

Rangers can’t attract quality players under Ferguson like they did with Steven Gerrard
Ferguson could potentially fail to entice quality players at the Gers if he remains manager, Sutton says.
The Englishman believes the Light Blues need someone capable of attracting stars to join the project at the Glaswegian outfit next summer, something the current interim boss may not be capable of.

Sutton feels Steven Gerrard, who has been linked with a return to Ibrox, is someone who can be a convincing voice at the Bears.
The former Celtic ace wrote in the Record (2 May): “First of all, they need a manager who can entice signings in the door to aid the project. Ferguson is not that man.
“Right now, Rangers need a stardust individual to make the club look appealing. Even if his overall record was weak, Gerrard did manage that when he was there.”

Gretar Steinsson has huge manager decision to make at Ibrox
Gretar Steinsson is leading the charge at Ibrox as the Gers look for a new permanent manager ahead of next season.
Gerrard is someone 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh would likely have on their radar as he looks for a new job after leaving Al-Ettifaq.
The US consortium are moving closer to their takeover of the Light Blues and have several things to consider.
Rangers need a new manager if they let Ferguson and his staff leave, which feels like the right thing to do.
The American owners must also ensure the Bears build a competitive squad to compete with Celtic, which Kevin Thelwell will undoubtedly play a significant role in.
Ibrox will finally have a new sporting director in the Englishman once he leaves Everton this summer.
There are also several imperative contract decisions, the most significant being Ianis Hagi’s future at the Glaswegian outfit.
While Sutton is wrong about Ferguson being unable to attract players, with Vaclav Cerny wanting to stay at Ibrox after working under the interim boss, a new manager is evidently needed.
