Tony Docherty desperate as Mulligan update shared amid Rangers links

Rangers have targeted players within the Scottish Premiership to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.

Rangers are set for a huge rebuild across all areas of the club, with new owners, a director and potentially a manager all arriving this summer.

Kevin Thelwell recently arrived from Everton to lead this rebuild, and there will be plenty of work to do in recruitment.

The Gers may now benefit from signing players who are proven in Scotland to ease this transition, and Dundee star Josh Mulligan has been targeted.

Dundee boss speaks out on Mulligan to Rangers links

Mulligan has been linked with a move to Ibrox this summer, but Dundee would like to keep their midfielder beyond the end of the season.

Speaking via the Daily Record (April 30), Dundee boss Tony Docherty claimed that he does not want to see Mulligan leave after such a fine campaign.

“We won’t give up hope of Josh staying because you always want to keep your best players.

Mulligan for Dundee

“We started the season with Luke McCowan, Cameron and Mulligan and all three have improved so much, they’re attracting attention. It’s important that’s what we do at this club – improve and develop players.

“It’s great to see players do well and for as long as Josh is with us, we’ll continue to work with him. Hopefully we’re working with him for longer.”

“He’s getting better and better as the season goes on. There’s going to be speculation about him.”

Mulligan could be a good addition for Rangers

Mulligan is just 22, but he already has a lot of Premiership experience under his belt, and would arrive as someone ready to make an instant impact.

The midfielder provides a lot of versatility, having played both out wide and in the centre, as well as in the back line.

The Scotland Wnder-21s international has scored six times and provided 10 assists in 118 Dundee matches, and fell into Rangers’ radar some time ago.

Rangers have already held talks over his signing, but until the club establishes who will be the next manager, Thelwell cannot press ahead with any signing, and this will need to be addressed as soon as possible.
