Simon Jordan slams ‘childish’ Rangers and Celtic after what’s happened

Rangers are set to welcome fierce rivals and freshly crowned Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to Ibrox on Sunday.

The Bears’ clash with Brendan Rodgers’ side on 4 May marks the final Old Firm derby of the season, and gives Barry Ferguson’s men an opportunity to claim a big victory in an otherwise disappointing campaign.

Kris Boyd laughed on Sky Sports as he dismissed the idea of Rangers giving Celtic a guard of honour after they clinched the Scottish Premiership title on 26 April.

But Keith Jackson previously claimed that the Gers can take the moral high ground if they congratulate Rodgers’ side on their title achievement.

When asked if he expects the Gers to give Celtic a guard of honour live on talkSPORT [30 April, 12.23pm] Simon Jordan said: “I think ultimately it’s part and parcel of acknowledging the best in the league, and the tragedy between these two football clubs is they seem to act towards one another in a way which isn’t befitting of their position.

“Certainly, the way that they’ve handled one another over the fans and arguments over who can put what fans in what stadium and the reason why they don’t do it, I think, was all a bit churlish and a bit childish.”

Last time out against Rodgers’ side, Ferguson’s men claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory at Celtic Park, thanks to Hamza Igamane’s late strike.

Rangers must enjoy a strong end to the campaign

The Bears have enjoyed a largely woeful campaign, as rivals Celtic have already won the Scottish Premiership campaign with four games to spare.

Meanwhile, the Gers were also knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Championship outfit Queen’s Park, as well as being beaten by Rodgers’ side in the League Cup final in December.

Rangers’ run to the Europa League quarter-finals offered the Ibrox faithful some respite from their domestic struggles, but this campaign has been far from memorable for Ferguson’s men.

The Light Blues must enjoy a strong ending to the campaign as they look to establish momentum ahead of next season, while Ferguson will be desperate for another Old Firm victory.

The interim boss appears increasingly unlikely to be named as the Bears’ next permanent manager, but Rangers supporters loved their win at Celtic Park in March and will be hoping for more of the same come Sunday.
