Michael Gannon wowed by ‘incredible’ Rangers detail he heard amid budget claim
Michael Gannon has been astonished by Rangers as they look to end their disappointing season on a high.
Rangers have had a nightmare of a season despite progressing into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League again.
The Light Blues have had no success in cup competitions, while Celtic clinched the Premiership title with four games to spare and sit 17 points ahead of them.
However, there is cause for excitement at Ibrox, as the Gers are on the cusp of a takeover by a US consortium involving 49ers Enterprises.

Gannon cannot believe what Scott McDermott said about Rangers
The takeover does not mean Rangers will be able to go toe to toe with Celtic in all aspects in the snap of a finger, as the incoming owners have their work cut out for them.
Assessing the herculean challenge that lies ahead of Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, Scott McDermott pointed out how the Gers have dropped 13 points against St. Mirren and Motherwell this season.
The Daily Record journalist described the fact that the Ibrox outfit have managed only two wins in seven games against those two teams as ‘unbelievable’.
“Rangers have dropped 14 [13. ed;] points this season against Motherwell and St. Mirren alone. That’s unbelievable”, McDermott said on Hotline Live (29 April).
Team | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points Earned | Points Dropped |
St. Mirren | 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 8 |
Motherwell | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 5 |
Gannon was astonished by the stat, which he described as ‘incredible’.
The journalist explained that there is no reason why the Glasgow giants cannot pick up at least three wins in their four games against St. Mirren even under their current circumstances.
“That is incredible”, Gannon said.
“Fair play to St. Mirren and Motherwell. St. Mirren, in particular, have done a brilliant job against Rangers this season, but that’s not good enough.
“You cannot tell me that you cannot put a team decent [enough]. The money Rangers have got even at the moment, you cannot tell me you cannot beat St. Mirren three times out of four for the season.”
49ers have massive task at Ibrox
This is only one detail that highlights the problems at Rangers and how much they have fallen behind Celtic in recent years.
Therefore, the 49ers have a huge task ahead of them once they finalise their deal to acquire a 51 per cent stake in the Gers.
It remains to be seen if Rangers’ incoming owners can instantly reduce the gap with Celtic with shrewd recruitment in the transfer market and the appointment of a top manager.
