Russell Martin ‘disaster’ brought up as Rangers new manger updates emerge
Rangers’ hunt for a new manager is pushing them toward a potential disaster in Russell Martin.
The Light Blues have been without a permanent manager since the sacking of Philippe Clement following their dreadful season.
He was replaced by former Gers captain Barry Ferguson on a temporary basis until the end of the season, but he has failed to prove that he is the right man for the job.
The Scottish giants are still looking to the future, and a managerial hire will be crucial before the summer transfer window opens so that they can begin influencing the squad as they like.
Several names have been linked with the Rangers role, including former Champions League winners Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho.
Russell Martin would be a risky hire for Rangers
However, the current frontrunner at the moment is former Southampton boss Russell Martin, with the expected new owners, the 49ers’ being interested in him.
According to the Mail, the ownership would like to bring Martin to Scotland due to him being a bright young manager, despite his disastrous run in the Premier League this season.
Martin had impressed when the Saints dominated the Championship, but they struggled to adjust to life in the top flight of the English game, and the manager was found out.

Rangers could cause problems for their Old Firm rivals with Martin
The difference between Rangers and Southampton in their distinct leagues could lead to Martin working out as a manager in Scotland.
The Gers are one of the top teams in the Scottish Premiership, in comparison to Southampton being one of the weakest in the Premier League.
That would likely lead to his passing style of play working out better north of the border, which is likely why the 49ers are contemplating him as a hire.
