Rangers takeover latest: Image shows US tycoon at Ibrox for ‘sensational’ deal

Rangers’ takeover seems to be edging closer after a key development was spotted at Ibrox.

The 49ers have been linked with a takeover at Rangers for some time.

After a disappointing campaign, the news has been seen as a gateway to start a new era at Ibrox.

The 49ers are seen as a giant in the US, and the company has recently overseen Leeds United’s return to the Premier League.

Now, the takeover appears to be edging ever closer, after the recent images that have appeared online.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers spotted taking tour around Ibrox

On Tuesday, there was speculation online that Rangers’ prospect owner Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers were at Ibrox after all stadium tours were cancelled.

Now, this has been confirmed thanks to an image of the group at the stadium.

According to The Daily Record (29 April), the potential owners were taken on an all-access tour of the ground, with the “red carpet” being rolled out for the group.

Andrew Cavenagh was in the building alongside Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe who is seen as the force behind the 49ers.

On top of this, 49ers supremo Jed York also appeared to be among the group alongside Leeds technical director Gretar Steinsson. However, despite speculation, Barry Ferguson was not part Tuesday’s meeting.

The takeover is now expected to be finalised in the “coming weeks”.

49ers takeover could transform Rangers

It is clear that Rangers are a sleeping giant in Scotland. Despite the limitations of the Scottish Premiership, the club has been successful in Europe, and were just a penalty kick away from the Europa League a few years ago.

With proper investment, the club could become a power in Europe once more and finally end Celtic’s dominance domestically.

With the ambition the 49ers have shown at Leeds United recently, it certainly indicates that they will invest in Rangers.

Hopefully, the takeover can be complete by the season’s end to give the new owners the entire summer to prepare for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
