Ferguson’s Rangers future ‘could be decided in days’ amid new Marathe update
Rangers are on the verge of a change in ownership, with 49ers Enterprises close to completing a takeover.
Rangers have endured one of their most disappointing campaigns in recent years, and will end the season trophyless.
Interim manager Barry Ferguson took over after Philippe Clement was dismissed earlier this season, but it remains to be seen whether he will take the job on a full-time basis.
49ers chairman Paraag Marathe is set to play a key role in determining what the new era of Rangers will look like, and decisions could be made imminently.

Marathe flies into UK amid Rangers uncertainty
Marathe is based in San Francisco in his role as 49ers chairman, but he has now flown into the UK with a lot of issues to sort out.
The 49ers also have a stake in Leeds United, and the uncertainty over Daniel Farke’s future meant that Marathe flew in to attend their final home game of the season on Monday, April 28, as per The Guardian (28 April).

While he is in the UK, Marathe could take a trip up to Glasgow to settle affairs at Rangers as they get their rebuild underway.
This could mean Ferguson’s future is decided while Marathe is in the UK, with no decision yet made on whether he will be handed the Rangers job on a permanent basis.

Rangers need a new manager despite Ferguson popularity
Ferguson has had a mixed spell in difficult circumstances as Rangers interim manager, with some impressive results but a few disastrous days.
Although Rangers beat Celtic and Fenerbahce away from home, their form at Ibrox hit a new low as they lost five home games in a row between Clement and Ferguson’s reigns in charge.
The former Rangers captain is a popular figure among the fanbase, but given the size of the rebuild Rangers will undertake, a more experienced manager may be necessary.
It is unclear whether the 49ers will opt for familiarity with Ferguson, or choose to bring in a new head coach, but there may be fear that some of the issues Rangers suffered this season would continue if the Scot remains in charge.
