Rangers transfer update emerges on Norwich ace Angus Gunn chase

Rangers will be looking to strengthen their ranks in the summer transfer window, once the 49ers Enterprises finalise their takeover.

While Kevin Thelwell’s imminent arrival means that plans can begin for the transfers, a new manager is still to be finalised.

It would be counterproductive if Thelwell picks players without knowing who the manager will be.

Angus Gunn transfer mooted as Norwich announce exit

Rangers have faced a goalkeeping crisis this season, with Jack Butland putting in underwhelming displays as the number one.

His performances led to Barry Ferguson axing him as the first-choice goalkeeper and he gave the nod to Liam Kelly.

While Kelly has done a decent job, he’s arguably not done enough to stake a claim to be the first choice for next season.

Given this dilemma, Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark took to X to give the Ibrox outfit a transfer suggestion.

On Monday, 28 April, Norwich announced that their keeper Angus Gunn, will be leaving the Canaries come the end of the season.

Despite playing 34 games this season, the 29-year-old will be parting ways with the EFL club.

Clark wrote: “Angus Gunn leaving Norwich in the summer. Rangers should be all over that.”

Rangers can actually benefit from signing Gunn on a free transfer

Signing Gunn on a free transfer could be a shrewd move for Gers, offering a cost-effective solution to their goalkeeper conundrum.

The 29-year-old brings proven experience with over 150 Championship appearances and 15 Scotland caps, demonstrating reliability at club and international levels.

His familiarity with high-pressure environments, honed during Norwich’s promotion pushes, aligns with Rangers’ demand for consistency in domestic and European competitions.

Gunn’s ball-playing ability, developed under possession-heavy systems, could suit a progressive manager like Daniel Farke, potentially addressing the stylistic concerns surrounding Kelly and Butland.

While not a marquee signing, a free transfer minimises financial risk, allowing the Ibrox outfit to allocate funds elsewhere during a squad rebuild.

The Scotland international’s leadership and experience could stabilise the backline, providing a dependable option without the hefty price tag of other targets, making him a pragmatic choice for a club navigating uncertain times.
