Kris Boyd calls for ‘change’ at Rangers after what he saw v St Mirren

Rangers drew with St Mirren on Saturday, shortly after Celtic has clinched the Scottish Premiership trophy.

The Gers have been well off the standards of their rivals throughout the season and it was only a matter of time until they watched their rivals take the victory.

However, as Rangers took a disappointing point against St Mirren, it highlighted the gulf between the two sides.

Boyd makes Barry Ferguson admission in Rangers verdict

After the sacking of Philippe Clement, it was hoped that Barry Ferguson would be able to raise the morale at Ibrox until the end of the campaign.

Although the Europa League run proved to be a distraction for a while, the reality for Rangers is that they are without a win in five games.

Earlier in his tenure, there were calls for Ferguson to be offered the job on a permanent basis, although that looks less and less likely as the campaign continues.

Although it is all they have left to focus on, the Light Blues could not keep their focus and conceded after being 2-1 up against St Mirren to settle for a point.

Reflecting on the club’s position, Kris Boyd has admitted he sees no difference to the side as he told Sky Sports Scotland (28 April): “You look at Barry Ferguson on Saturday in his interview, you got the feeling that it’s the exact same as the last few managers that whatever you try and do, you might get a reaction for a couple of games.

“But the reality is, there are too many players that will slip back into their own routines. It’s the same old problems that pop up and cause them issues.

“Once again, there are far too many players that have seen off coaches and managers and something is going to have to change.”

49ers need Rangers overhaul

Supporters at Ibrox will be looking ahead to the summer transfer window, hoping that by the time the season ends, the 49ers Enterprises will have completed a takeover.

Increased investment from the Americans would likely give the Gers the opportunity to compete with Celtic once more and push at the top of the table, in the hope of a trophy.

However, as Boyd says, there is plenty of work to be done.

Ranges have been well off Celtic.

Ferguson showed good signs early on, but the lift to the squad was short-lived and there seems to be little life left in most of the players.

This does leave questions over how far the Bears can progress without mass changes in the squad, to bring in players with the mindset needed for change at Ibrox.

There are going to be plenty of decisions to be made by the 49ers as soon as they get started, but with the current group, it feels like real progress is still some way off.
