Michael Stewart blasts Rangers on Sportscene after what Callum McGregor said
Michael Stewart blasted the mentality of Rangers following their latest setback in the Scottish Premiership.
It was another disappointing day at the office on Saturday (26 April) as the Light Blues were held to a 2-2 draw away at St Mirren.
The result extended Rangers’ run without a win to five games in all competitions as their season threatens to end with a whimper.
Barry Ferguson’s men led the game twice after goals from Cyriel Dessers and Nicolas Raskin, but they were pegged back both times as Mark O’Hara and Conor McMenamin got on the scoresheet to round off another frustrating day.

Rangers lack consistent mentality
Rangers might have delivered some dreadful performances at times this season, but there have also been some brilliant ones, which have highlighted what the squad is capable of.
That has been a source of frustration for fans, as the squad have turned up in the Europa League on a consistent basis, with their brilliant efforts leading them to the quarter-finals.
The Gers also defeated Celtic in a five-goal thriller back in March, where their mentality was tested after almost letting a two-goal lead slip, only for Hamza Igamane to score an 88th-minute winner.
Match Stats | St Mirren | Rangers |
Possession | 42% | 58% |
Total Shots | 9 | 11 |
Fouls | 11 | 11 |
Passes | 291 | 400 |
The difference in mindset is something that Stewart highlighted on Sportscene, as he blasted the concentration and commitment of the Rangers squad.
He said, “The other moments that we’re seeing there, they just don’t happen when they’re in those bigger games, when they’re in Europe and they’re against Celtic, it just doesn’t happen.
“You heard Callum McGregor on the back of the Celtic game talking about mentality and the constant drive, Rangers just don’t have those type of players.”

Rangers’ summer recruitment will be crucial
It is set to be an important summer transfer window in the months ahead for Rangers as the pressure will be on the board to recruit the right players to get the Scottish giants out of their slumber.
The first crucial decision will come in the form of appointing a new full-time manager, as Ferguson is only under contract until the end of the season.
The former Rangers captain has likely not done enough during his spell in charge to have earned that opportunity, with results under Ferguson failing to inspire fans.
Steven Gerrard has emerged as a favourite to return to Ibrox, but whoever it is that gets the position will need to be financially backed in a bid to put together a squad capable of closing the gap on their Old Firm rivals.
