Kevin Thelwell sent early Rangers replacement message after Everton move

Rangers are waiting for the 49ers Enterprises to complete their takeover at Ibrox, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Preparations are already being put in place ahead of a new era in Glasgow after it was announced that Kevin Thelwell will be making the move to Rangers from Everton at the end of the season.

Thelwell is said to be an appointment approved by the new owners and will be working on their behalf at Ibrox as the American investors look to rejuvenise Rangers.

Thelwell sent early Rangers warning

There is plenty for Rangers supporters to get excited about ahead of the new season, if a takeover goes through, with increased investment expected.

While the 49ers will be prepared to put more resources into the project at Ibrox, there is a big gap that has to be bridged between them and their rivals to see things fixed.

Thelwell should be well equipped for the task, though, based on his previous experience with the Toffees, where he has often had to work with one hand tied behind his back.

His experience so far suggests that Thelwell should have the ability to be shrewd in his business while also having increased backing.

The project at Ibrox could well take time to come to fruition, as Celtic are no doubt already preparing for next season, while Rangers are waiting to find out where they stand.

Hugh Keevins has warned the new incomers, however, that they will have to get to work with some speed as he wrote in the Daily Record (27 April): “Thelwell will, though, need to get up to speed with the city to where he has relocated from his post at Everton. The new sporting director’s introductory statement used the words: ‘Change takes time.’

“Not in Glasgow, it doesn’t. If you’re not part of a title-winning club by this time next year, there’ll be people suggesting you, and others, should be replaced.”

Rangers have to be patient

Given how dismal this season has been at Ibrox, it shouldn’t take too much improvement to give supporters a better season, and more to cheer, next term.

The final aim is, of course, to be back at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, battling it out against their arch-rivals for the league title once more and a point against St Mirren on Saturday (26 April) was a reminder of the journey to come.

However, the Gers cannot be expected to change everything overnight and to see sustainable change at Ibrox could take a bit longer to achieve.

Although frustrating at times, supporters have to be prepared to get behind a longer-term mission before they can truly celebrate the best moments with their side once more.

So long as the Light Blues find themselves in a better position in 12 months than they are in now, Thelwell should be extended some breathing space to develop further.
