Kris Boyd reacts at Jose Mourinho to Rangers development

Kris Boyd has delivered his verdict on former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho becoming the next Rangers manager.

In his view, Barry Ferguson is expected to be shown the door at the end of the season, once the takeover is finalised.

The Gers legend returned to Ibrox to work as the interim manager after Philippe Clement was sacked and his deal runs out in the summer.

Steven Gerrard and Mourinho cannot be ruled out, claims Boyd

A host of managers have been linked with the job as the 49ers Enterprises will be eyeing a big rebuild in the summer.

Steven Gerrard is someone they’re understood to be appreciative of, and a return cannot be ruled out, at this stage.

Mourinho, an eight-time league winner, spanning four countries, could also be on his way out of Fenerbahce and has been linked with the Rangers job as well.

Boyd, a Sky Sports pundit, told the Sun: “Barry Ferguson has carried himself extremely well in the role over the last few months. But my gut feeling is that Rangers will go down a very different route and appoint someone else.

“Steven Gerrard’s name never seems to go away, along with Jose Mourinho. I wouldn’t rule anyone out but whoever gets it will operate as more of a head coach than manager.”

Rangers could succeed under Mourinho or Gerrard

Gerrard and Mourinho both emerge as compelling candidates for Gers’ managerial vacancy due to their proven track records and alignment with the club’s ambitions.

Gerrard, who led Gers to the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title, demonstrated an ability to dominate domestically, going unbeaten in the league while instilling a winning mentality.

His familiarity with Ibrox, passionate leadership, and success in high-pressure environments make him a natural fit to restore Rangers’ competitiveness, despite his mixed tenure at Aston Villa.

Conversely, Mourinho, with his illustrious career managing elite clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid, brings unparalleled experience and tactical acumen.

His ability to deliver trophies, including multiple league titles and European honours, aligns with Rangers’ desire for a transformative figure to elevate their domestic and European standing.

The Portuguese’s charisma and media presence would galvanise the fanbase, while his expertise in managing big personalities could maximise the squad’s potential.

Both managers, in their unique ways, offer the pedigree and vision to lead Rangers back to glory under the 49ers Enterprises’ ambitious ownership.
