John Souttar ‘mistakes overlooked’ as Rangers draw v St Mirren
John Souttar had a game to forget as Rangers drew against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
The Scottish centre-back started for the Gers against Stephen Robinson’s team in Paisley on 26 April as the visitors dropped points again.
Cyriel Dessers gave Barry Ferguson’s team the lead before Mark O’Hara equalised before the break.
Nico Raskin restored the Light Blues’ advantage, but their defensive frailties allowed Conor McMenamin to find the back of the net as the game ended 2-2.

Souttar has seen form dip at Rangers
Souttar gets away with the mistakes he makes for the Glaswegian outfit, Four Lads says.
It’s been claimed that fans would have a meltdown had former Gers defender Connor Goldson put in performances similar to those of the Scottish centre-back.

The 28-year-old defender has been going through a poor run of form, but it feels like he isn’t being criticised for it.
Four Lads wrote on X (26 April): “I said during the week, [Souttar] gets away with it. Has made so many mistakes, and if his name were Connor Goldson, socials would be in meltdown. Going through such a poor run.”
Ferguson hurts chances of Ibrox stay
Ferguson’s hope of staying at Ibrox beyond this season seems to be slipping away as the Gers continue to drop points domestically.
With Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises looking to complete their takeover soon, the interim manager’s future will surely be on their radar.
Kevin Thelwell’s appointment at Ibrox appears to signal a shift in the direction the prospective new owners may take once they arrive.
Rangers must strengthen their backline in the upcoming transfer window, as Souttar has suffered several fitness issues in recent months.
Leon Balogun and Dujon Sterling have also been unreliable due to their consistent injuries, with James Tavernier’s future at Ibrox also uncertain.
Ridvan Yilmaz is another defender who’s been unavailable a lot this season, seemingly making reinforcements a priority for the Light Blues, and the incoming American owners should spend heavily next summer.
Robin Propper was signed last summer, but the Dutchman has struggled in his first season in the Scottish Premiership and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave after just one year in Glasgow.
If the Gers want to compete with Celtic in the upcoming campaign, they’ll arguably need a solid backline, but whether Ferguson will be in charge to oversee the potential revamp remains to be seen.
