Cerny dropped, youngster gets rare start — Rangers confirmed XI v St Mirren

Barry Ferguson has confirmed his Rangers starting lineup as they face St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Paisley will host Ferguson’s team on 26 April as the interim manager looks to potentially end his stint at the Gers on a positive note.

The former Scotland international will leave the Light Blues at the end of the season unless incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell decides to keep him at Ibrox.

With a few injury issues in the squad, the 47-year-old head coach has had to make a few changes to the team against Stephen Robinson’s team.

Rangers make four changes v St Mirren at Paisley

Ferguson has made four changes as the Glaswegian outfit confirmed their starting lineup on X (26 April).

Liam Kelly has continued in goal, with Clinton Nsiala and Robin Propper replacing the injured Ridvan Yilmaz and Robin Propper.

Bailey Rice has been handed a rare start in the midfield alongside Nicolas Raskin, with Mohamed Diomande potentially moving to a more attacking role.

Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi have been dropped to the bench, with Hamza Igamane starting, and Cyriel Dessers apparently the number nine.

Ibrox to back Ferguson in final weeks

Ferguson is highly respected at Ibrox for the work he did there as a player, captaining the Gers to several titles during his playing career.

The ex-midfielder’s appointment after Philippe Clement’s sacking was sensible as it galvanised the supporters.

With Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann also part of the Light Blues’ temporary coaching setup, there was a renewed sense of excitement among the fans.

Ferguson’s record as the Gers manager.

Rangers made it to the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Fenerbahce in the last 16, but they were knocked out of the competition by Athletic Club.

Not many people expected the Gers to win the European competition, but supporters felt something special could happen under Ferguson.

While the La Liga outfit were arguably too good for the Light Blues, some fans have enjoyed the interim manager’s stint at Ibrox and would like him to continue beyond this season.

The Scotsman’s sole focus will now seemingly be on winning the next five fixtures and hoping the new owners back him.
