Rangers urged to sell Ridvan Yilmaz now after what’s happened at Ibrox

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz has managed just 11 starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, amid injury problems.

The Turkiye international joined the Ibrox giants in the summer of 2022, but made just 15 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign.

Yilmaz went on to make 33 outings for the Bears last term, notching two goals and two assists in the process.

But this season, the 23-year-old has not been able to feature in the Scottish Premiership regularly, while he suffered an injury when the Gers were knocked out of the Europa League by Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of their quarter-final.

Rangers urged to sell Yilmaz after injury bombshell

On Friday, Barry Ferguson revealed that Yilmaz will be out for the rest of the season, thanks to the injury he sustained in Bilbao.

Reacting to that news, former BBC presenter Bobby Nwanze wrote on X (25 April): “Honestly, Ridvan Yılmaz at Rangers has been more sidelined than on the pitch.

“Since joining in 2022, he’s missed over 50 games due to recurring thigh and muscle injuries. It’s probably best for both parties if he moves on. Time to sell.”

Rangers should sell Yilmaz

Yilmaz has managed a total of 28 appearances this season, featuring for the Ibrox side in every competition they have played in this term.

Yilmaz’s minutes have once again been limited thanks to injury issues

But as outlined by Nwanze, the former Besiktas man has missed more than 50 games since joining the Bears back in 2022, showing that he has not been a worthwhile addition.

The defender has essentially missed an entire season’s worth of matches, and the number of games he has been absent for is set to rise due to his latest setback.

Rangers should, therefore, be keen to cash in on Yilmaz’s services while he is still under contract in Glasgow until the summer of 2027.

Regardless of whether interim boss Ferguson is handed permanent terms at Ibrox, incoming owners, the 49ers Enterprises, should look to facilitate Yilmaz’s exit as soon as possible.

The Gers will surely have grown tired of the full-back’s recurring injury issues, while supporters will certainly be frustrated by the 23-year-old’s latest setback.
