Rangers player set for Newcastle move in transfer bombshell

Premier League side Newcastle are reportedly on the verge of signing a Rangers youngster this summer.

The Gers academy is famed for producing talented players and over the years, a number of them have been snapped up by English top flight clubs.

Even if they leave on a free transfer, the Ibrox outfit are due for training compensation for the years he’s spent with the academy.

Oliver Goodbrand looks set to seal Newcastle transfer

The Record, in their article on 24 April, have labelled Oliver Goodbrand as a “Rising Star” at Rangers.

They claim that while the 16-year-old can sign pro terms at Ibrox this year, he looks set to join the Magpies.

The teenage left-back is understood to be the top summer talent for the St James’ Park outfit’s emerging talent pool.

Newcastle are also willing to pay training compensation to Rangers should he move south of the border this summer.

The young Scotsman made his B Team debut last year when he was 15 and has even captained his country at the youth level.

Rangers must do better to retain their academy players

To prevent promising talents like Goodbrand from leaving for Premier League clubs and to navigate the disparities in league quality, Gers must adopt a strategy that balances player development, financial incentives and competitive exposure.

With the Premier League’s financial muscle and global allure, Rangers face a significant challenge in retaining young stars.

However, by focusing on creating a robust development pathway, fostering a strong club identity and leveraging their European platform, the hierarchy can make staying at Ibrox a more attractive proposition.

Once the 49ers finalise their takeover, they should invest heavily in their academy infrastructure and coaching staff to rival the development programs of Premier League clubs.

While the Gers’ academy is renowned, ensuring state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge sports science and high-calibre coaches can demonstrate a commitment to player growth.

Offering personalised development plans that outline clear pathways to the first team is critical and that could tempt players to sign a professional contract at Ibrox rather than move to a Premier League side.
