Kevin Thelwell ‘to pull rank’ after Cyriel Dessers admission on Rangers future
Cyriel Dessers has been a polarising figure at Rangers, and Kevin Thelwell may soon find that out once he arrives at Ibrox.
Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe of the 49ers Enterprises are hoping to buy controlling shares at the Gers soon, with a breakthrough already reached to complete the deal.
Outgoing Everton chief Kevin Thelwell is set to join the Glaswegian outfit next summer as their sporting director, potentially leading to a squad overhaul soon.
Dessers’ future at Ibrox was up in the air during the winter transfer window, and it will be interesting to see what the incoming hierarchy think about him.

Rangers need new striker transfer next summer
Hamza Igamane’s breakthrough at Ibrox has been encouraging for supporters, as he appears to be the real deal.
The Morocco international broke into the starting lineup midway through the season, replacing Dessers, but the Nigerian ace has found his place back in the team under Barry Ferguson.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |

With the former AS FAR youngster’s form dipping, the 30-year-old striker has seized the opportunity by scoring some crucial goals, but his overall contribution has been underwhelming under the interim management.
If the Light Blues don’t have faith in Igamane to be the first-choice number nine yet, the prospective new owners should make signing a striker their priority next summer.

Dessers ignored after Ibrox admission
Dessers was in demand at Ibrox in the previous transfer window, with his agent receiving several offers for his departure.
The Nigerian forward has been in and out of the starting lineup this season due to his profligacy at the Glaswegian outfit, which has left many fans frustrated.
The Gers ended up keeping the former Cremonese star as they looked to turn the tide in the Scottish Premiership and do something special in the Europa League.
While it made sense for the Light Blues not to sanction the 30-year-old’s exit in January and February, they should cash in on him next summer.
Dessers seemingly hopes to stay at Ibrox next season, but Thelwell and the prospective new owners must ignore his intentions.
Speaking to the media via the Rangers Review (25 April), the striker said: “Oh, no, I’m very keen. Yeah, for me, I came here two summers ago. With the ambition to fight for trophies, to win trophies. Now I’m sitting here, we had two amazing runs in Europe, but we only won a trophy, and I don’t think that’s enough.
“I’m really hungry to win more trophies, more silver at this club. So, for me, I’m very keen. But obviously, like I say, there’s going to be a lot happening, but I’m looking forward to that as well.”
The Gers can’t go into the upcoming campaign with an unreliable goalscorer like Dessers as their main outlet.
While the 30-year-old could be a decent option off the bench, the Light Blues should either have faith in Igamane or buy a new number nine.
Considering the Nigerian ace had multiple suitors during the winter window, there’ll surely be a team out there willing to sign the centre-forward for a decent sum in the coming months.
Danilo is another player whose future needs to be assessed after the Bears spent a significant sum on him, as the Brazilian ace has struggled with consistent fitness issues.
Thelwell has an obvious decision to make with the Glaswegian outfit’s attack once he arrives.
