Jim White reacts as Rangers finalise major Ibrox deal, makes 49ers Enterprises claim

Rangers are edging ever closer to their takeover by the 49ers Enterprises being completed.

After a disastrous season at Ibrox, supporters are waiting patiently for the takeover to be completed in the hope of a more optimistic summer transfer window.

If the 49ers gain control in enough time, they will be able to shape the summer transfer window in terms of both the manager and players who come through the door and push the Gers back up the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers announce new deal

Rangers have been well off the standards of Old Firm rivals Celtic this season, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ side to breeze towards the Scottish Premiership title.

Europa League action has been a saving grace in Glasgow but after getting knocked out against Athletic Bilbao, Barry Ferguson is just trying to carry his side through as interim boss until the end of the campaign.

Rangers have been well off the top.

It has been announced that Kevin Thelwell is set to be part of the change, making the move to Ibrox at the end of the season, upon his exit from Everton.

There have been reports that Thelwell will be working on behalf of the 49ers, with the appointment having been approved by them ahead of their ownership.

This is promising news for supporters, as it looks like the new owners are already putting their own stamp on the Light Blues, ready to aim for more success.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (24 April, 10:45), Jim White mooted the job that lies ahead at Rangers as he said: “Rangers confirmed last night that Everton’s Kevin Thelwell is to become their new sporting director when he leaves Everton so he isn’t going to the new stadium that Everton are going to, he’s going to Glasgow to get behind what Rangers are going to attempt to do, maybe under 49ers Enterprises global control. We shall see.”

Rangers have to be patient

The prospect of a takeover is exciting, especially when you consider some of the misery that Rangers fans have had to put up with over recent times.

However, immediate success cannot be expected and rather, this will be a longer-term project that creates sustainable success at Ibrox.

Thelwell’s appointment from Everton is a good one, given he has shown the ability to sign good players with one hand behind his back in a difficult period at Goodison.

At Ibrox, he should have the freedom to make some of those decisions in easier circumstances and help the Bears get closer to their rivals.

That being said, with the takeover yet to be completed, every passing minute is putting the 49ers back in their preparations for next term.
