Daniel Farke to make ‘strange’ move to Rangers after Leeds United sack news

Daniel Farke has emerged as an option to take charge as the new Rangers manager after the impending takeover.

Rangers and Leeds United have had contrasting fortunes this season, with the former falling 15 points behind arch rivals Celtic in the title race and the latter successfully earning promotion to the Premier League.

However, both clubs also have much to look forward to, as Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe edges closer to completing a takeover at Ibrox, along with Andrew Cavenagh.

The Whites have already begun preparations for life in the Premier League and are considering replacing Farke due to concerns over his poor track record in the top flight.

Rangers are in the same boat, as they are on the lookout for a new manager to replace Barry Ferguson, whose contract ends at the end of the season.

Farke to Rangers on cards amid Leeds twist

This could be a win-win situation for Rangers and Leeds, as Farke could now jump ships from Elland Road to Ibrox, thanks to the 49ers’ links to both clubs.

Assessing the managerial situation in Glasgow, Bill Leckie suggested that the German tactician could ‘move within the group’ by swapping the Whites for the Light Blues.

Speaking on the Coffee Club FC (23 April), Leckie asked: “Could Leeds move on Daniel Farke, and Daniel Farke move within the group?”

Meanwhile, Roger Hannah believes it would not be a surprise if Farke ended up as the Rangers manager, although he expects him to have other offers in the wake of yet another promotion-winning season.

“Listen, stranger things have happened”, Hannah said.

“Somebody said the exact same thing to me yesterday. Is that something the group are interested in? Is that something that Daniel Farke is interested in?

“Because again, with a third promotion to the Premier League, he has enhanced his own standing. So, there may be other jobs out there for him.”

Ibrox awaits 49ers takeover

Whether or not Farke ends up at Ibrox, Rangers are certainly in for an exciting summer, if and when the proposed takeover by the US consortium involving the 49ers goes through.

It is worth noting that the Gers are not waiting until the takeover is finalised, having hired Kevin Thelwell as their new sporting director.

Thelwell will join the Premiership heavyweights when his contract at Everton runs out.

The incoming sporting director is now expected to play key role in the appointment of a new manager.
