Gordon Duncan in shock at double Rangers appointment claim – ‘Excuse me?’

Barry Ferguson will continue to oversee managerial duties at Rangers but it is now widely expected a new boss will be appointed come the summer.

Ferguson is still in the running to stay on at Ibrox and he will point to the two-legged win over Fenerbahce, plus the win at Celtic, as evidence as to why he should remain in charge.

However, some big names have been touted with the Rangers job, not least Jose Mourinho, and it is looking increasingly likely there will be a new face in the dugout come August.

However, two names suggested as contenders for the Rangers job have now left reporter and presenter Gordon Duncan in visible disbelief.

Steven Gerrard won Rangers’ last Scottish Premiership title

Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale returns touted at Rangers

Steven Gerrard has been regularly linked with a return to Rangers, with that creating some mixed reaction.

However, talk of Michael Beale potentially linking up with him once again is far more of a left-field shout.

That is something that Gordon Dalziel suggested on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, as shared via X (24 April).

“If I’m Steven Gerrard and I’m returning to Rangers, I’m bringing Michael Beale,” Dalziel said.

Duncan replied to that by simply saying: “Excuse me? Can you imagine the reaction?”

Dalziel followed up with: “The reason I’d do it is because [Beale] now knows he’s not a manager, but he knows his best area is coaching.”

Ferguson to see out the season at Rangers

Rangers chiefs are in no massive rush to name a new permanent manager as there is absolutely nothing left to play for this season.

Elimination from the Europa League was the final nail in a terrible campaign on the whole, one in which Ferguson has only overseen for the past couple of months.

While he may not have said it publicly, Ferguson would love to be given the honour of managing Rangers beyond this season.

If he wins each of his remaining games, then who knows? Otherwise, though, the new owners will no doubt have some of their own names in mind – whether that be Gerrard, Mourinho or someone else.
