Thelwell tells Rangers board to strike Everton deal straight away

Kevin Thelwell is already ringing the changes at Rangers as he gets set to join the Ibrox club.

The Everton sporting director is set to move to the Gers at the end of the season to take up the same role in Govan.

He will see out his contract with the Premier League outfit before making the move to Glasgow but it seems that he is already calling the shots.

Thelwell wants Everton figure at Rangers

The Gers are set for significant change in the summer with the 49ers Enterprises group set to complete their takeover.

A report from Daily Record (23 April) claims that Thelwell has told the Light Blues that he wants to bring Blues’ academy director Gareth Prosser with him when he joins the Auchenhowie ranks.

The 51-year-old, who has been at Everton since 2022, has an extensive CV and was in the same role at Wolves from 2013-2019 and has held roles with Derby County and the Wales FA.

Rangers need to utilise their academy

The Gers have not produced enough first-team standard players in recent years and will hope that the move will enable them to bring more talents through.

Ross McCausland is the only academy graduate who has constantly been in and around the senior squad this season and that needs to improve under the new ownership and sporting structure.

Kris Boyd questioned the way that the academy has been ran in recent years back in November and it appears that the new sporting director recognises those concerns, considering his latest move.

If the Bears can start to produce first-team talents regularly, they can either become starters or be sold on for significant profit and that could help to bridge the vast gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

At the moment, the youngsters are not good enough and therefore do not get chances to impress in the senior squad, hopefully this can change if Thelwell can bring his experienced Toffees counterpart to Govan.

Maybe we will see the club put their faith in youth and give them a chance to make an impression.
