Patrick Stewart makes Rangers sporting director decision

Kevin Thelwell, who is set to leave Everton this summer, has been linked with the Rangers sporting director position.

Patrick Stewart, Gers’ current CEO, confirmed that they are keen on hiring a sporting director as part of an overhaul behind the scenes.

Since Ross Wilson departed for Nottingham Forest, that position has been left unfilled.

Thelwell in pole position for job as Stewart makes decision

Stewart has been leading the charge for a new sporting director/director of football and it seems like he has narrowed in on the ideal candidate.

According to the Mail, Thelwell is in pole position to land an important role at Ibrox and it will be one of the two aforementioned positions.

An appointment could be imminent as the departing Everton chief has been personally identified by Stewart.

In March, it was announced that Thelwell will be leaving the Premier League club, which means Gers will not have to pay anything in compensation for him.

Rangers will need Thelwell’s expertise in rebuilding the side post the takeover

Thelwell, with his extensive experience as a sporting director, would bring strategic vision and recruitment expertise to Rangers, pivotal for rebuilding post-takeover.

His tenure at Everton and Wolves showcased his ability to identify talent within budget constraints, a critical skill for Gers given the Scottish Premiership’s financial landscape.

His data-driven approach to scouting would help unearth undervalued gems, strengthening the squad while maintaining fiscal discipline.

The Toffees chief’s knack for fostering academy development could bolster Rangers’ youth pipeline, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Post-takeover, Thelwell’s experience navigating complex ownership transitions would stabilise the Ibrox outfit, aligning the board, manager and the recruitment strategy.

By implementing a clear playing philosophy, he’d ensure signings fit the manager’s system, addressing recent inconsistencies.

His Premier League connections could attract loan deals or experienced players, enhancing competitiveness against Celtic.

Thelwell’s calm leadership and proven track record would lay a robust foundation, driving Gers toward sustained domestic dominance and European progress.
