Michael Beale reacts as Rangers agree terms for major Ibrox hire

Michael Beale has instantly reacted to the news of a major new appointment at Rangers.

Having been knocked out of the UEFA Europa League, Rangers do not have anything to play for this season, despite there being five more games left to play in the Premier League.

That means all eyes are now on the impending takeover by the US consortium headed by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.

The Light Blues are poised for a busy few weeks, with the takeover in its final lap and major decisions to be made over Barry Ferguson, among others.

While plans for next season will largely depend on the takeover, Rangers are in no mood to waste any time, particularly after what has been a disappointing season.

The Gers have addressed one of their top priorities from the Football Review earlier this year by roping in Kevin Thelwell as their new sporting director.

Thelwell will start in his new role at Ibrox once his contract as the director of football at Everton expires at the end of the season.

Rangers took to social media to express their delight at agreeing to bring Thelwell in, posting a welcome message to the former New York Red Bulls director of football on Instagram (23 April).

Beale was among the first to react to the breaking news, as he liked the said post from his own handle on Instagram.

Thelwell’s predecessor Ross Wilson, who left the Glasgow giants in 2023, also reacted to the news by liking the post.

Nils Koppen to leave Ibrox

Thelwell’s appointment raises doubts over Nils Koppens’ future at Ibrox.

The Belgian has played a key role in Rangers’ recruitment since arriving last year, and was subsequently appointed as the technical director in November.

There are suggestions that Koppen could be on his way out once the takeover is completed.

With Thelwell’s arrival, the writing appears to be on the wall for the senior Rangers figure.
