Michael Stewart makes ‘perfect’ Jose Mourinho claim amid Rangers development
Michael Stewart has provided his thoughts on Jose Mourinho taking the reins at Rangers.
It emerged on Sunday (20 April) that Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have found a breakthrough in talks to acquire a 51 per cent stake in the Gers.
With an announcement only a few weeks away, one of the first decisions the incoming owners have to make is regarding the manager.
Barry Ferguson has done well to take the Ibrox outfit to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, but the US consortium involving the 49ers Enterprises are expected to move in a different direction.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with the permanent manager job at Rangers, and is said to be open to managing the Ibrox outfit.

Stewart makes ‘chaos’ Mourinho admission
Assessing the possibility of Mourinho taking the reins at Rangers, Stewart expressed his enthusiasm to see that happen.
The Scot recalled how Steven Gerrard stunned him with a remark about the refereeing in Scotland on his first game in charge of the Light Blues in 2018, and suggestedthat the Portuguese tactician would be as edgy, if not more.
He also pointed out how Mourinho has been causing ‘absolute chaos’ in Turkey as the Fenerbahce manager before insisting that his antics would be perfect for Rangers.
“You better believe there will be plenty [of talking points if Mourinho comes]”, Stewart said on the Scottish Football Social Club (21 April).
“Do you remember Steven Gerrard’s first game at Pittodrie, and he came out with a line about the club having been suffering refereeing decisions for years, and you were like, ‘how do you know?’
“You can guarantee that Mourinho would be exactly the same. I mean, he’s causing absolute chaos in Turkey, slaughtering refs left, right and centre.
“Fenerbahce have got everything, there’s a conspiracy against them. That would just fit in perfectly here, wouldn’t it?”
Mourinho open to Rangers job
Mourinho is said to be open to taking the reins at Rangers under the new ownership, but he is contracted to Fenerbahce until 2026.
That means the Premiership heavyweights would have to pay the Turkish outfit a compensation fee to acquire the 62-year-old’s services.

Whereas, Gerrard is available for free after being sacked by Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq in January.
While Mourinho would be new to Scottish football, Gerrard is well aware of it, having won the Premiership with Rangers in the 2020-21 season.
That is why the Liverpool icon is currently being considered as the favourite to replace Ferguson at the end of the season.
