Kris Boyd reacts to Rangers snub in PFA team of the year in ‘unbelievable’ claim
Kris Boyd has made his feelings apparent after PFA Scotland named only two Rangers players in their Premiership team of the year.
Celtic grabbed the headlines after the footballers’ association revealed their best 11 of the Premiership season on Saturday (19 April), with seven of their players making the cut.
Rangers, on the other hand, were in for disappointment, as only John Souttar and Nicolas Raskin earned a place in the esteemed XI.
It has been a reflection of the demoralising season the Light Blues have had after falling 15 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the title race with five games remaining.

Boyd says Rangers star was snubbed
Providing his thoughts on the players’ team of the year, Boyd claimed that there was a case to be made about Vaclav Cerny being named in it.
The Sky Sports pundit named Dundee’s Simon Murray as another player who was overlooked for the recognition, and feels Hibernian will be gutted about being omitted entirely.
Matches | Starts | Minutes | Goals | Assists |
28 | 26 | 2160′ | 11 | 2 |
However, he admitted that the likes of Cerny cannot have any complaints about being left out of the team of the year, especially considering the contributions of others.
Boyd also pointed out how some players have been excellent in phases, citing Nicolas Kuhn, who he feels has struggled for form after an ‘unbelievable’ run in the first half of the season, as an example.
“Look, Cerny was maybe somebody that could [have been named]”, Boyd said on the Go Ballistic show (21 April).
“He would maybe have had a case to be named. Simon Murray is another one.
“You know, Hibs will look at it from their point of view, in terms of the season they have had. But not everybody can get it, can they?
“There have been periods where players have been really good. Take Nicolas Kuhn, for example.
“Until January, he was unbelievable, and then he’s kind of dipped. His form has dipped, but you can’t forget the impact he had on Celtic’s team.”
Cerny will be upset about rejection
There is no denying that Cerny has been one of Rangers’ best players this season, despite this being only his first season in Scotland.
With 11 goals to his name, the Czech international is the joint-fifth top scorer in the Premiership, with only Daizen Maeda, Murray, Sam Dalby and Cyriel Dessers having more to their name.
That is why the attacker will be upset to have been left out of the players’ team of the season.
Nevertheless, Rangers will be pleased with his contributions and could now be looking at making his loan move from Wolfsburg permanent.
The Ibrox outfit have an option to buy Cerny for a cut-price fee of £5.5million before the end of May.
