Rangers takeover ‘closer than ever’ after blockbuster update straight from Ibrox

Rangers supporters have been patiently waiting for the 49ers takeover to be completed.

The deal for the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh to take a commanding shareholding in the Ibrox club had seemed to have hit a snag.

The consortium led by Paraag Marathe and Cavenagh had agreed a deal in principle to take over in Govan, with just legal formalities to be completed.

However, doubts had emerged over how long the deal was taking but they seem to have been smoothed over in recent days.

Rangers takeover ready to be completed

The Rangers takeover looks set to be back on the cards after worries over the time it was taking.

A report from the Scottish Sun (20 April) claims that all parties have dismissed the idea that the deal was stalling and it is actually now “closer than ever”.

It states that former chairman Dave King regards the “blockbuster” American offer to be his legacy at Ibrox and that the group have acquired the required 51 per cent of shares to complete it.

There had been reports that former Gers executive Sandy Easdale was needed to complete a deal, but that speculation has now been dismissed.

49ers have a huge task at Rangers

The delays to the deal have left the Americans with a major headache for the summer as they try to bridge the gap to Celtic.

The Gers find themselves 15 points behind their arch-rivals in the Scottish Premiership and it will be a tough task to overcome that anytime soon.

The gap to Celtic is very big.

Barry Ferguson‘s future as interim boss is uncertain, and the squad needs a major overhaul. It is likely to prove too much to do in one summer, so it is a long process rather than a quick fix.

Star players such as Hamza Igamane and Nicolas Raskin are set to garner significant interest from south of the border and may decide to jump ship.

However, Marathe and Cavenagh’s impending arrival is exciting and should end years of shareholder fighting that has hampered the Auchenhowie outfit.

Brighter times look set to arrive imminently on the blue half of Glasgow.
