Gareth Southgate to Rangers claim emerges as Ferguson nears Ibrox exit

Barry Ferguson could potentially leave Rangers soon, with a shocking suggestion about Gareth Southgate being made at Ibrox.

The Gers icon was appointed interim manager until the end of the season after replacing Philippe Clement earlier this year.

Ferguson may have hopes of extending his stay at Ibrox, as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises continue working on completing the takeover at the Light Blues.

The former Scotland international has done a decent job at the Glaswegian outfit so far, but losing to Athletic Club in the Europa League quarter-finals could possibly have diminished his chances of becoming the permanent manager.

Southgate to command hefty sum to become Rangers manager

Four Lads have dismissed claims that the Bears might hire Southgate.

Stevie Clifford believes the former England national team head coach could potentially demand over £100,000 a week to take charge of the Gers.

The Light Blues have been told to forget about the former Middlesbrough boss making his way to Ibrox as they look for Ferguson’s replacement.

Speaking on Four Lads Had A Dream (18 April), Clifford said: “Yeah, Southgate would probably command a wage of over £100,000 a week. So, you can forget about that.”

49ers should stick with Ferguson at Ibrox

Ferguson’s solid reputation at Ibrox goes back to his playing days as he admirably captained the Glaswegian outfit to several titles.

The former Scotland international has Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann for support in the backroom staff.

While the Bears have endured mixed results since the interim management’s arrival, they have clearly instilled the passion that was lost under Clement.

Ferguson may not be the best manager Rangers can appoint right now, but he feels like the right choice.

The 47-year-old head coach has showcased his managerial nous by beating the likes of Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers in recent months.

With the Gers struggling domestically, the Europa League was their only hope until the end of the season, but they were unable to make it to the semi-finals.

Apart from the Old Firm Derby, the rest of the matches in the Scottish Premiership seem inconsequential as Celtic have all but confirmed their triumph in the league.

Ferguson should still show what he can offer until the end of the season, and the prospective new owners may have no option but to hire him in the end.
