49ers ‘already identify chief Rangers backroom figure’ after Steinsson claim
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are nearing completion of their takeover at Rangers, and significant changes are expected at Ibrox.
The US consortium have been in talks to take control of the Gers for some time now, and it remains to be seen when it’ll become official.
Cavenagh has been spotted at Ibrox several times already, and there’s an expectation of the prospective new owners arriving soon.
Once the Americans are officially sworn in at the Glaswegian outfit, they’ll arguably make changes from top to bottom and may already have one key figure in place.

Gretar Steinsson to be huge part of Rangers hierarchy after takeover
Cavenagh and the 49ers could potentially have identified Gretar Steinsson as a key member of the backroom staff at Ibrox, Barry Nicholson says.
The former Scotland international believes the US consortium may want the Icelandic national to lead the football side of things at the Gers.

Nicholson has backed the 43-year-old to join the Light Blues after working at clubs like Everton, Tottenham and Leeds United.
Speaking to Record (20 April), the Scotsman said: “Since Fleetwood, [Steinsson] has been employed by some massive clubs and held important positions. And it sounds like the consortium who are looking to take over Rangers have identified him as the guy to lead the football side of things.”

Ibrox faithful can’t wait for American takeover
The Ibrox faithful are waiting for Cavenagh and the 49ers to complete a deal to buy majority shares at the Glaswegian outfit sooner rather than later.
Once the Americans complete their takeover at the Gers, they’ll have massive decisions to make on several fronts.
The US consortium will arguably have to make decisions on the players who could potentially leave, as well as identify targets they’d want to pursue next summer.
Barry Ferguson’s future at Rangers is also uncertain, and the interim manager will undoubtedly sit down with the prospective new owners to discuss his position.
The former Scotland international has had a mixed record since replacing Philippe Clement in the Ibrox dugout.
While the 47-year-old head coach led the Light Blues to the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Fenerbahce, the loss to Athletic Club has arguably diminished his chances of becoming the permanent manager.
The Bears have nothing of note to play for until the end of the season, with the Scottish Premiership title almost in Celtic’s hands.
If and when figures like Steinsson are appointed at the Glaswegian outfit, they’ll undoubtedly need to get to work quickly.
