Rangers: Tom English issues £6m claim ahead of 49ers takeover
Tom English has delivered an admission on the Rangers transfer approach in comparison to Celtic in recent years.
With the San Francisco 49ers set to finalise their takeover, they will want to avoid the mistakes made under past managers.
They also have a decision to make about who the next permanent manager will be as Barry Ferguson’s deal runs out at the end of the season.

Danilo transfer slammed by English
The BBC journalist has criticised Gers’ transfer approach, given they shelled out £6million to sign Danilo.
Along with him, he has also slammed the Ibrox outfit for signing Oscar Cortes, Nedim Bajrami and Sam Lammers and spending colossal amounts of money on them.
English wrote in the BBC: “There can’t be another Danilo – £6m spent on a fee, millions more in wages and three more years left on his contract.
Club | Win rate |
Clyde | 38.3% |
Kelty Hearts | 65.7% |
Alloa Athletic | 27.3% |
Rangers | 40% |
“There can’t be another Oscar Cortes, a lesser-spotted winger of questionable ability, who is at Rangers on loan with what is understood to be a must-buy clause said to be in the region of £3-4m.
“There can’t be another Nedim Bajrami; another Sam Lammers; another Ben Davies. Around £11m was splurged on those three alone.
“For £11m, or less, Celtic brought in Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate and Alistair Johnston. All major successes and all trophy-laden, with two of them subsequently sold for a combined £35m.”

Rangers may consider selling Danilo this summer
Since his move, he has missed several games due to injury and has not proven to be a reliable first-team player for the Ibrox outfit.
He has also fallen down the pecking order and is not viewed as someone who makes the strongest eleven with all players fit.
Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers appear to be ahead of him in the striker hierarchy and his days at Ibrox might be numbered.
Gers could consider selling Danilo this summer due to his persistent injury issues and underwhelming impact since his move from Feyenoord in 2023.
The 26-year-old striker has missed over 50 matches, starting only 11 Premiership games, with 12 goals and nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
His wages and injury-prone record make him a financial liability, especially with the 49ers Enterprise takeover looming, which demands a squad overhaul to compete for the Scottish Premiership.
Cashing in on Danilo could fund a more reliable forward, aligning with the club’s need for consistent performers.
