Rangers injury exclusive: New Bailey Rice update emerges

Rangers midfielder Bailey Rice was covered with a head brace as a precaution in case it was a serious injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert witnessed the scenes where the 18-year-old was stretchered off in the first leg of the Athletic Bilbao clash.

He played 67 minutes of that game, but has not featured for the first team since then.

Rice carries a risk of re-injury

Even though the midfielder was on the bench for the second leg, he is understood to carry a small risk of re-injury.

That said, it is not expected to stop him from starting the next match for Rangers in the league.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, exclusively told Ibrox News: “Per the manager, he took a knock to the back of his neck, so the stretcher and head bracing were likely potential head injury precautions.

Medics did a nice job here in taking those precautions.

He was on the bench in mid-week, so while there is always a risk of re-injury, it’s not something that will prevent him from starting the next game.

Rangers must give Rice more minutes before the end of the season

With Gers’ season lacking competitive stakes, Rice should be given more first-team minutes to prepare for next term.

The 18-year-old, who appears ready for regular senior football, can use these games to refine his skills, gain experience and build confidence.

Having recently recovered from an injury, the Scotsman may initially need limited stints, such as 60-minute appearances, to regain full match sharpness before handling complete games.

Increased playing time will polish his passing, decision-making and physicality, aligning him with the Ibrox outfit’s tactical demands.

This opportunity could solidify his role in the squad, ensuring he’s primed to contribute significantly next season, potentially as a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder, strengthening Rangers’ midfield options.
