Rangers ‘make final decision’ on new manager with Barry Ferguson as McCoist speaks out
Rangers interim boss Barry Ferguson is still vying to become the Ibrox side’s next permanent manager in the backdrop of an impending takeover.
Since taking the reins from his sacked predecessor Philippe Clement, the 47-year-old has already experienced a range of highs and lows at Ibrox.
The best moment of his tenure with the Bears undoubtedly arrived on 16 March, when his side defeated fierce rivals Celtic 3-2 on away soil.
But Ferguson and the Gers’ Europa League adventure came to an end on 17 April, when they were beaten 2-0 by Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of their quarter-final.

Ally McCoist suggests 49ers Enterprises won’t stick with Ferguson
Rangers’ defeat in Bilbao and subsequent elimination from the Europa League will have done Ferguson no favours in his bid to stay at Ibrox.
Opponent | Result |
Hibernian (H) | 0-2 L |
Athletic Bilbao (H) | 0-0 D |
Aberdeen (A) | 2-2 D |
Athletic Bilbao (A) | 2-0 L |
After the Gers lost in Spain, Ally McCoist said live on TNT Sports 2 [17 April, 22:12]: “My guess would be they’ll look elsewhere.”
It is seemingly now just a matter of time until the 49ers complete their Ibrox takeover, and the Bears faithful will hope their reign can bring a positive future.

Rangers will look to enjoy a strong end to a difficult season
After their Europa League elimination, the Bears can no longer win any silverware this term, courtesy of their poor domestic season, which sees them sitting 15 points adrift of league leaders and rivals Celtic.
However, pride is still on the line for Rangers, who will be particularly keen to emerge victorious in their next Old Firm Derby clash on 4 May.
Firstly, though, Ferguson’s men will look to bounce back from their defeat in Bilbao with a strong performance at St Mirren on 26 April.
The Ibrox outfit then end their season with two home encounters with Aberdeen and Dundee United before facing an away trip to an in-form Hibernian outfit on the final day of the campaign on 17 May.
If Ferguson does not have a long-term future at Ibrox, he will be looking to enjoy a strong ending to a tenure in the dugout which has been turbulent at times.
