Rangers in line for mega Nico Raskin windfall as Ferguson makes exit plea

Nico Raskin has stepped up for Rangers of late in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Glasgow club.

The 24-year-old has made 42 appearances for Rangers in all competitions this season and was recently capped by Belgium at senior level.

Raskin has been linked with an Ibrox exit in the summer transfer window, with a number of clubs credited with an interest.

It has been reported that Rangers may consider selling Raskin, as well as Mohamed Diomande, in order to raise funds to bring in new faces.

However, in the view of player-turned-pundit Derek Ferguson, Raskin should personally think twice about leaving Ibrox this summer.

Raskin told to stay at Rangers

Raskin still has two years to run on his Ibrox contract, so Rangers are not in desperate need to sell this summer – although his valuation will surely never be as high as it is right now.

The player himself may have his head turned if certain clubs approach Rangers, but Ferguson – pointing to previous experiences from his time at Ibrox – believes staying put is the best choice.

“Raskin needs to have a look at himself because it’s only of late he’s started performing, coinciding with his change of diet and attitude,” Ferguson told Ibrox News.

I don’t think there are many clubs he’d enjoy playing his football at outside of Rangers. There are big clubs in England, including in the Championship, but – and I’m only going by experience of players I played with – they always say that when you leave Rangers, you regret it.

If I was Niko Raskin’s advisor, I’d be telling him to stay put, at least for the next year or two. Keep improving, look at the size of the club you’re at, and realise the fans adore you.

He’s highly thought of by the fans, so why would you leave? If he does go, then Rangers really need to be looking towards the £8-10million mark.”

Raskin valuation at Rangers

Ferguson’s suggestion that Rangers could land up to £10m for Raskin is in line with recent reports.

That is a mammoth sum as far as the Gers are concerned, placing him among the biggest sales in the Govan club’s history should it go through.

However, keeping hold of Raskin for another 12 months or so before possibly then cashing in would surely be the best bet for everyone involved.
