Rangers have ‘Cyriel Dessers transfer dilemma’ as Ibrox problems mooted
Rangers have a massive decision to make in the upcoming transfer window as Cyriel Dessers continues to frustrate at Ibrox.
The Nigerian ace has retained his place in the Gers’ lineup as of late, starting in the 0-0 draw against Athletic Club in the Europa League on 10 April.
Barry Ferguson’s team will travel to San Mames on Thursday (17 April) for the second leg of the quarter-finals, and the 30-year-old striker will likely be called upon again.
Once the season ends, though, the Light Blues will arguably make several significant changes, with the potential takeover on the horizon, and the former Cremose centre-forward may be on the chopping block.

Dessers transfer decision questioned at Rangers
Stephen McGinn questions whether the Glaswegian outfit need to sell Dessers next summer.
The former St Mirren ace suggests that the Gers may have more significant problems than the Nigerian striker’s future to sort out in the coming months.
Players | Appearances (2024/25) | Goals | Assists |
Dessers | 49 | 23 | 7 |
McGinn has termed the Light Blues’ decision on the 30-year-old centre-forward their “biggest enigma” ahead of the upcoming transfer window, as he shows glimpses of his talent now and again.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (15 April), the ex-midfielder said: “The biggest enigma in the Rangers team would be what you would do with Dessers. He occupied the Athletic defenders on his own, even with 10 men. But some of his hold-up play was questionable.
“For the stuff you need to do in the summer window, all the changes, is he really as big a problem as other bits of the squad?”

Ferguson trusts Dessers at Ibrox as transfer on cards
While some would like to see Dessers leave Ibrox sooner rather than later, what the future holds for him remains to be seen.
Ferguson doesn’t seem to favour Hamza Igamane, with the Morocco international struggling for game time and goal contributions in recent weeks.
The 22-year-old broke into the first-team earlier in the campaign and pipped the Nigerian ace in the pecking order, but things haven’t been great for him lately.
Dessers put in some encouraging performances for Rangers under the interim manager, but the 30-year-old’s profligacy leaves much to be desired.
The former Cremonese ace often leaves supporters frustrated with the number of chances he misses at the Gers.
While Igamane hasn’t been at his best, the 22-year-old is still young and should be the Glaswegian outfit’s preferred number nine next season.
Dessers may not want to play second fiddle at the Glaswegian outfit in the upcoming campaign, potentially leaving the exit door open.
