Ianis Hagi ‘exit on cards’ after Barry Ferguson treatment at Rangers
Rangers could potentially be without Ianis Hagi for next season as Barry Ferguson may have already made up his mind at Ibrox.
The Romania international has found his way back into the Gers senior squad after being sidelined by Philippe Clement at the start of the campaign.
Hagi’s current contract at Ibrox expires in the coming months, and the Light Blues are yet to agree new terms with him.
The 26-year-old has been impressive in recent matches for the Bears, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the 2-2 draw, but he could potentially be on his way out next summer.

Rangers to part ways with Hagi after lack of game time under Ferguson
Hagi may not stay at the Glaswegian outfit beyond this season after his lack of game time, Ross McCormack says.
The former Scotland international wouldn’t keep the Romania playmaker at the Gers and feels Ferguson appears to have a reason not to play him much.
| Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Scottish Premiership | 23 | 4 | 7 |
| Europa League | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| Scottish Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Premier Sports Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
McCormack believes the 26-year-old has been inconsistent at the Light Blues and doesn’t always meet expectations.
Speaking on Open Goal (15 April), the ex-forward said: “I don’t think I would [keep Hagi]. I think there’s obviously a reason why Ferguson isn’t playing him much either. I think in a lot of games he flatters to deceive a bit.”
49ers Enterprises will want to keep Hagi at Ibrox
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may soon complete their takeover of the Gers, arguably leading to many changes.
The US consortium will first need to decide on Ferguson’s future at Ibrox after he replaced Clement temporarily.
While some would like to see the 47-year-old continue as permanent manager beyond this season, what the future holds for him remains to be seen.
Hagi’s future at Rangers also needs to be discussed, and the prospective new owners must have it on their agenda before the campaign ends.
If Cavenagh and the 49ers complete their takeover before the end of the season, they’ll likely have to hold talks with the Romanian international to understand his demands.
The 26-year-old playmaker has shown that he can be a valuable asset for the Glaswegian outfit, and losing him for free would arguably be terrible business for them.
What the Light Blues should do is secure the midfielder’s future on a short-term deal and cash in on him in the summer of 2026.
It will be interesting to see how Hagi’s saga at the Bears unfolds.
