Kris Boyd pleads with Rangers to back out of £3.5m transfer already in place
Rangers have had a lot of misses in the transfer market in recent seasons, and these mistakes simply have to come to an end.
Rangers have endured a woeful domestic season, with Celtic on the verge of winning the title by a landslide, and their last hope remains in Europe.
The Gers are set for a big overhaul in senior positions, with a new manager potentially replacing Barry Ferguson while there could also be a change in ownership.
The transfer strategy in recent years has seen a big turnover of players, but despite fairly big outlays at times, a lot of incoming players have disappointed, and Kris Boyd has now highlighted one terrible deal.

Boyd wants Rangers to cancel Oscar Cortes transfer
Rangers thought they had pulled off a masterclass when they signed Colombian winger Oscar Cortes in January 2024, initially on loan from French side RC Lens, but he has hardly featured.
Rangers icon Boyd has now called for the club to cancel his upcoming permanent transfer.
“With Cortes, you’ve not paid the money for him yet. It was nice to see him back on the pitch, as we know where he is now,” Boyd told the Go Ballistic Podcast (15 April) when asked about Cortes.
“If there was any way Rangers could get out of this deal, or at least try to, they should take advantage of it.

“It’s £3million, it’s a lot of money. Rangers need that money in other areas to get in players who are regular players who you can depend on week in, week out.
“It’s already been a waste of money if it’s just wages that’s been paid so far, and tying him to a longer contract doesn’t look good for Rangers.”
Cortes has been a disastrous signing for Rangers
Cortes’ first few months at Ibrox were heavily disrupted by injury, and he ended the season with one goal in seven games.
Despite this, Rangers signed him on another loan with a £3.5m obligation to buy, but this deal can now be considered a disaster.
Cortes has managed just one goal in 16 appearances for the Gers, and appeared for the first time in a while as he started against Aberdeen in a heavily rotated side.
The Colombian was substituted at half time following a disappointing display, and he is clearly not going to break into the starting XI any time soon.
Rangers will still have to commit the transfer fee to signing him though, and it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to sell him for anything close to that, causing a longer-term problem.
