Hugh Keevins leaves studio in laughter after what he just said about Rangers

Hugh Keevins has spoken out on Rangers ahead of the Scottish Premiership post-split fixtures.

The Gers head into the final five league fixtures of the campaign with little to play for, especially after the late draw against Aberdeen on Sunday (13 April).

Ianis Hagi’s goal sparked celebrations in the stands at Pittodrie but ultimately leaves the Light Blues 15 points off Old Firm rivals Celtic in the table.

This looks almost certain to hand the title to the Hoops, which has sparked a funny remark from Keevins of what Barry Ferguson’s men could do if that happens.

It is safe to say that there is no love lost between the two Glasgow giants, especially after Hamza Igamane smashed home a winner at Parkhead.

This secured one of the results of the season for the Govan club, who haven’t had a lot to cheer about in recent years.

Regardless of this, it is highly unlikely that Ferguson can turn things around and win the title, relying on a Europa League clash against Athletic Club to save the campaign.

This could see Celtic secure their fourth Scottish Premiership title on the bounce, potentially as early as 26 April in an away clash against Dundee United.

If that was to be the case, Keevins has suggested that the Gers could give their biggest rivals a guard of honour at Ibrox in a remark which left the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (14 April) in hysterics.

He said: “I’m perfectly certain that Brendan Rodgers believes that Celtic are good enough to win the league at Tannadice, and if they do win at Tannadice, it gives Rangers the perfect opportunity to provide Celtic with a guard of honour.

“It won’t happen, it shouldn’t happen. When clubs do the guard of honour, they don’t mean it, they’re told to.”

Rangers can’t give Celtic guard of honour

Respect is a massive thing in football, but there is respect, and then there is humiliation.

If the Light Blues were to stand and welcome their Old Firm rivals to the pitch in G51, it would haunt them forever and constantly be used as ammunition against them.

As a result, it makes little sense to give Rodgers’ side that satisfaction regardless of it potentially being a sign of disrespect.

The Gers are better off focusing on themselves and their remaining games of the campaign, particularly the clash against Athletic Club in Spain on Thursday (17 April).
