Union Bears scenes ‘to impact Rangers investment’ as figure spotted at Ibrox

49ers Enterprises were represented at Ibrox for last week when Rangers took on Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.

Gretar Steinsson, who is the 49ers’ global football technical director, was in attendance at Ibrox on Thursday (10 April) along with prospective investor Andrew Cavenagh.

Footage emerged of the pair arriving at Ibrox ahead of kickoff as Rangers played out a 0-0 draw with Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-final first leg.

Cavenagh has now been in attendance at multiple Rangers matches as he aims to get an Ibrox takeover completed, alongside 49ers Enterprises, in the coming weeks.

Cavenagh to be encouraged by what he witnessed at Ibrox

While the game may have finished goalless, it was not without its drama as Robin Propper was sent off and Athletic Bilbao had a contentious penalty that was then saved.

The atmosphere, as expected, was superb before, during and indeed after the game as Rangers kept themselves in contention for a semi-final berth.

And in the view of pundit Derek Ferguson, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Cavenagh may now be further encouraged to reach into his pockets to reward fans in terms of investing in the team.

Asked if the prospective new owners will only be encouraged more to spend big once a deal is in place, Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News: “Yeah, and you know what, I hope they weren’t just inside the stadium on Thursday.

I hope they were outside as well because the Union Bears had a street party around the Copeland Road end. The atmosphere before the game was electric. This is what the Rangers fans bring to the party.

Now these new owners will have ideas on how good these supporters can be, but if they witnessed this, even through footage, they will know everything that comes with taking charge of Rangers.

The supporters are amazing. These guys will hopefully come in with different ideas on how to do things in and around Ibrox. This will just whet their appetite more in terms of working with Rangers and doing things behind the scenes.”

Rangers takeover latest

Plenty of time has passed since news first emerged of this takeover, which understandably get supporters very excited.

While it may have gone slightly quiet on that front of late, that is not to say the investment is at threat of being derailed.

Indeed, Steinsson and Cavenagh being in attendance suggests the opposite. Let’s just hope they have very much ‘caught the bug’, so to speak, and are ready to hit the ground running once the takeover is in place.
