Rangers takeover: Andrew Cavenagh ‘flies to Ibrox’ to conclude deal
Rangers draw closer to their takeover as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises continue working to get the deal done.
The US consortium have been in talks for some time to take control of the Gers and buy majority shares.
Some board members at Ibrox have grown frustrated with Cavengah and the 49ers, though, due to the time it’s taking to get a deal over the line.
The ParetoHealth chairman was in the stands as the Light Blues held on to a 2-2 draw against Athletic in the Europa League quarter-final’s first leg, but he may have also made progress on completing the takeover.

Cavenaga at Ibrox during Rangers v Athletic to conclude takeover
Cavenagh was present at Ibrox during the Glaswegian outfit’s draw with Athletic to potentially conclude the takeover, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist believes the American wasn’t present in the stands just to watch the game but may also have made progress to buy the Gers.

Jackson feels the US consortium’s deal to take control of the Light Blues is in its final stages, but when it will become official remains to be seen.
Speaking on Hotline Live (13 April), the journalist said: “Cavenagh would’ve wanted to take in the Athletic game. He wasn’t just here to get a seat in the stands at a European tie. I think he was over here to try and conclude [the takeover]. And it does very much feel as if they’re moving to the end game now.”
Ibrox takeover needs to happen now as Cavenagh and 49ers have decisions to make
Barry Ferguson’s future at Ibrox beyond this season is up in the air, with some fans wanting the Gers icon to stay in charge for longer.
The former Scotland international took interim charge until the end of the campaign after Philippe Clement was sacked.
In recent weeks, Ferguson has had some mixed results in the dugout as he’s beaten the likes of Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers but struggled against lesser teams domestically.
Rangers also have several talented players who may attract attention next summer, and the prospective new owners will need to make a decision on them.
Hamza Igamane’s breakthrough season at Ibrox has seen the likes of Newcastle United and Tottenham being linked with him.
While the Morocco international hasn’t been at his best in recent matches, he’s showcased great potential.
Nico Raskin is another who’s emerged as a superstar at the Glaswegian outfit, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see teams from down south making a move for him.
With much work needed to be done at the Gers, the takeover can’t happen sooner.
