Rangers ‘should be embarrassed’ after Ianis Hagi contract update at Ibrox
Ianis Hagi has gone from villain to hero at Rangers, but his time at Ibrox may be coming to an end soon.
At the start of the season, Philippe Clement relegated the Romania international to the Gers’ reserves, but the Belgian manager soon realised his mistake.
After a poor start to the campaign, the former Light Blues manager reintegrated the 26-year-old into the starting lineup, who brought much-needed creativity to the team.
Hagi could potentially leave Ibrox soon, though, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

Hagi deserves contract extension at Rangers
Barry Ferguson was appointed interim manager at the Gers after Clement’s sacking, but the former Scotland international has also found life difficult at Ibrox.
The 47-year-old head coach, along with Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann, has changed the setup at the Light Blues since arriving.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Scottish Premiership | 23 | 4 | 7 |
Europa League | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Scottish Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Premier Sports Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
With a different formation being used, Hagi has struggled for regular game time under the temporary managerial setup.
The Romanian playmaker has showcased his impact in recent matches, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser for the Bears at Pittodrie against Aberdeen in a 2-2 draw on Sunday (13 April).
49ers must change Hagi contract situation at Ibrox
Hagi has refuted claims of wanting to leave Ibrox after speculation about his future at the Glaswegian outfit.
The 26-year-old deserves a new contract at the Gers after coming through various trials and tribulations over the years to get back into the team.
In the 0-0 draw at home against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarter-finals on 10 April, the Romania international worked his socks off as he replaced the suspended Mohamed Diomande in the starting lineup.
After the midfielder’s performance against the La Liga outfit, Keith Jackson provided an update on his situation, claiming Rangers haven’t offered the former Genk ace a new deal yet.
Speaking on Hotline Live (10 April), the Daily Record journalist said: “This is a guy that’s going to be out of contract at the end of the season. Rangers haven’t put a new deal on the table for him.”
The Light Blues should be embarrassed that they haven’t yet tabled a new contract offer for Hagi despite his apparent commitment at Ibrox.
If the Romanian star were to leave in the upcoming transfer window, the Bears would have difficulty replacing him.
Once the 49ers Enterprises complete their takeover at the Glaswegian outfit, they should prioritise securing the 26-year-old’s future.
While the uncertainty in the boardroom may evidently be hindering the Gers from making important decisions, Hagi’s situation can’t be left unattended any longer.
