Jim White hits back at radio text on Rangers and Celtic live on air

Rangers have been miles away from Celtic this season, with 15 points separating the sides in the Scottish Premiership.

Barry Ferguson’s men did stop Celtic from winning the league title on Sunday (13 April) thanks to a 96th-minute equaliser from Ianis Hagi at Aberdeen.

However, it is only a matter of time until the title is mathematically confirmed and the Gers are forced to watch their rivals enjoy the glory.

Jim White makes Rangers dig

Rangers may have been well off in domestic competitions this season, but one area where they have delivered is in the Europa League.

Taking on Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals, the home leg ended goalless with Robin Propper being sent off early on, while Liam Kelly had to step up to save a penalty at Ibrox.

A big task lies ahead on Thursday in Spain, and the consequences of what will happen should Ferguson’s men progress again have been mooted.

Nevertheless, Celtic are on top as it stands, and Jim White feels that it is by quite some way.

While live on talkSPORT (14 April, 12:24 pm), White read out a message that was sent into the show, saying: “The top two in Scotland would struggle to win the Championship.”

White then immediately replied, as he said: “I don’t think so somehow. I think Celtic would definitely be in amongst it.

“Maybe not Rangers at this particular time, but Celtic would have a different say on that.”

Rangers ready for takeover at Ibrox

As the 49ers Enterprises look to complete a takeover of Rangers ahead of the new campaign, supporters will be looking at the future with more hope.

It has been a difficult few years in Glasgow, but new owners would be expected to increase spending and investment in the side, creating a sustainable model for the club going forward.

The debate of where Scottish sides fit in English football always causes debate and often, it is used to dig at other sides which is what White has done here.

This won’t be the focus for those at Ibrox, though, and if they can start improving things on the pitch to compete with Celtic again, the dynamic will surely change.

Rangers fans may well be bookmarking these quotes to come back and remind White of further down the line.
