Barry Ferguson ‘to get Ibrox statue’ after remarkable Rangers claim
Barry Ferguson has the chance to do something special at Rangers as they prepare for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final.
The Gers held Ernesto Valverde’s team to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox despite Robin Propper being sent off early in the game.
Ferguson’s team subsequently got a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Pittodrie, dropping two points against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (13 April).
The Light Blues now travel to San Mames to face Athletic on Thursday (17 April) with a chance to pull off an upset in Spain.

Rangers mic drop mooted from Ferguson after Europa League win
Ferguson leaving the Glaswegian outfit after winning the Europa League would be the greatest mic drop in managerial history, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist speculated it would be amazing if the interim manager could lift the European trophy in Bilbao and leave at the end of the season.
Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses |
9 | 4 | 2 | 3 |
Daniel Caw suggested that it’d be a remarkable achievement for the former Scotland international to do so at the Gers.
Speaking on Hotline Live (13 April), Jackson said: “Is it conceivable in the wildest imagination that Ferguson wins a European competition for Rangers, doesn’t get a contract, just basically does a mic drop and gets a statue at the end of the season? It’d be the greatest mic drop in managerial history.
Caw responded: “If he could do that, that’d be pretty remarkable.”
49rs Enterprises will have to decide on Ferguson future at Ibrox
Ibrox looks set for new owners in the 49ers Enterprises as they join hands with Andrew Cavenagh.
The US consortium’s arrival seems imminent, and they’ll have significant decisions to make at the Light Blues once the potential takeover is complete.
As things stand, the Bears have nothing but pride left to play for the Scottish Premiership, with the Europa League their only hope of silverware.
Ferguson’s tenure at Rangers so far has been mixed, but the prospective new owners may have him in mind as the next permanent manager.
While the interim boss’ domestic record has been underwhelming, apart from beating Celtic at Parkhead, the Gers have done well under him in Europe.
If the former Scotland international can steer the Light Blues past Athletic to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, he should be given the job for another season.
As things stand, it’s unimaginable to think the Bears will be able to reach the final of the European competition, let alone win it.
Ferguson could evidently provide stability at the Glaswegian outfit for the upcoming campaign as the US consortium settle in after completing the takeover.
