Kris Boyd savages ‘terrible’ Danilo after what he saw in Rangers 2-2 v Aberdeen

Kris Boyd was less than impressed with the performance of Danilo as Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw away to Aberdeen on Sunday.

Rangers once again stumbled in their league campaign at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon, with the 10-men of the Light Blues held to a 2-2 draw against Aberdeen.

Barry Ferguson’s side have nothing left to play for in the league, and that was evident in the performance and team selection from the Gers.

Danilo was handed a surprise start, and it may be his last one for Rangers after what he did in the draw, which left many scratching their head.

Danilo fails to impress for Rangers v Aberdeen

With the form of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers throughout the season, Danilo has very rarely been afforded the chance to showcase what he can do.

On the odd occasion he has received that chance, he has failed to take it, and it was no different at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.

His all-round play was sloppy, and he failed to have any impact in the game before his halftime withdrawal, which came as no surprise to Kris Boyd.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (13 April, 2:11pm), Boyd said: “It was no surprise that we never saw him in the second half. I thought Danilo was terrible, even a lack of getting about the pitch, and he didn’t look fit, and [Oscar] Cortes.

“I know they’ve both been injured, but you’ve got to be doing more than that, that’s for sure.”

Given the fact Rangers paid £6million for Danilo [Sky Sports], they need to see far more from him than he showcased against Aberdeen.

Ferguson in Catch-22 situation at Rangers

Rangers’ only chance of success this season is via the Europa League, which leaves Ferguson with a difficult decision to make.

Does he risk player fitness in a bid to build momentum for Europe? Or does he rest his key players and risk the loss of form? It’s a hard decision to make.

However, regardless of the route taken, Rangers need to show far, far more than they did for the majority of their clash with Aberdeen if they are to have any chance of progressing in the Europa League, with the return fixture against Athletic Bilbao approaching.
