Danilo called ‘Absolutely horrendous’ after what he did for Rangers v Aberdeen

Rangers produced another late moment of magic, scoring in the 95th minute to somehow earn a point against Aberdeen.

It was an uphill battle for the Gers, who had to play the majority of the game with 10 men thanks to a Ross McCausland red card in the 40th minute.

However, Ianis Hagi produced the goods in the final minute of added time to earn his side a point at Pittodrie with a 2-2 draw.

Barry Ferguson made a number of changes to his Rangers line-up in preparation for Thursday’s Europa League tie at Athletic Bilbao, but Danilo failed to impress in Scottish Premiership action.

Danilo highlighted for Rangers blunder

Danilo was called up to the starting line-up by Ferguson as attention turned to the Scottish Premiership again, with nine changes made.

As a result, Danilo was handed his seventh league start of the season so far, although his performance may have suggested why that was the case.

Rangers did have an early chance to put themselves in the lead as they pushed forward in the hope of breaking their opponents down.

Oscar Cortes thought he had managed to keep himself onside as his side broke forward, but the attack was broken up when Danilo took a poor touch. The offside flag was then raised anyway.

Speaking live on BBC Sportsound (13 April, 12:11), Steven Thompson blasted the forward as he said: “The touch from Cortes previously wasn’t a great one either, just as the offside decision happened, then the ball through from Cortes to Danilo.

“The touch is absolutely horrendous.”

Ferguson made the choice to pull Danilo and replace him with Mohamed Diomande for the second half of the game, which helped seal a solid point.

Rangers looking ahead to European action

Ferguson’s line-up was an immediate confirmation that the interim boss was putting all of his effort into the second leg of the Europa League.

It’s a decision that makes perfect sense too, given there is nothing to play for domestically anymore and pushing as far as possible in Europe would change the season massively.

The Light Blues will have been very pleased with a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday (10 April) in a game they played with 10 men for the majority, yet again.

In addition to this, the penalty save by Liam Kelly kept his side in the tie and he was rewarded with another start against Aberdeen as he gets his minutes up.

Nevertheless, heading into the away tie without an advantage is not an easy task either and the Bears will have to be at the top of their game if they are going to see themselves through.

Under Ferguson, away form has improved, and although it was a real scrap at times today, the team is expected to be significantly different on Thursday (17 April) with the players being ready to go.

All eyes are now on Spain.
