Tam McManus: Barry Ferguson likely to be furious with Rangers star

Tam McManus has issued his verdict on Barry Ferguson and Rangers after the UEFA Europa League quarter-final.

Gers have given themselves a good chance by avoiding defeat in the first leg against Athletic Bilbao.

The Scottish side were down to ten men for most of the game and even had to save a penalty to keep the score at 0-0.

Robin Propper incident will have Ferguson fuming – McManus

Robin Propper let his side down by making a reckless challenge in the 13th minute of the clash.

Initially, a yellow card was given, but once VAR intervened and asked the on-field referee to have a second look, he was rightly shown the red card.

McManus believes that Ferguson will be fuming with the Dutch defender, given the decision he made being an experienced player.

He told PLZ Soccer at 4:20: “If it was in the box then I think you can’t send him off as double jeopardy but he was outside the box. He was clean through for the goal scoring opportunity and the referee, by the letter of the la,w has got to send him off.

“He’s let the team down. He has in several other games and Barry must be pulling his head out with him because an experienced player getting done at the edge of the box.”

Rangers have to sell Propper in the summer transfer window

Ferguson has every right to be furious with Propper, whose reckless actions have repeatedly undermined Rangers’ efforts, most notably in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao.

This wasn’t an isolated incident; Propper’s errors in the Scottish Premiership highlight his inability to adapt to the league’s physicality and pace.

His display against Kilmarnock further fueled fan discontent, branding him unreliable.

Ferguson’s frustration is palpable, as Propper’s experience should prevent such lapses.

The incoming manager in the summer should push for his exit to rebuild a dependable defence, aligning with the club’s ambitions for consistency and success.
