Ally McCoist bias called out on TNT after Rangers controversy v Athletic

Robin Propper continued his horror first season at Rangers in the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday at Ibrox.

The Dutch defender was sent off after only 13 minutes against the Spaniards, after chopping down Inaki Williams on the edge of the box.

After Istvan Kovacs initially brandished a yellow card, he decided to upgrade it after VAR recommended a review of the last-man challenge.

Ally McCoist couldn’t hide his Rangers passion after, insisting it was a harsh call, as the Ibrox side somehow held on for a 0-0 draw.

McCoist bias called out on TNT Sports

Tam McManus was not happy with what he was hearing live on TNT Sports commentary, saying it was a stonewall dismissal after replays emerged.

Writing on X, he said: “Ally, it’s an absolute stonewall red card.

“If he doesn’t chop him, he is clean through on the keeper. If it were Fulham v Brighton, you would be saying it’s a red. Meant to be a neutral commentator, it’s not Rangers TV.”

Propper finished at Ibrox

If Rangers want to progress past this dreadful campaign, signings like Propper have to be let go.

The Dutch defender was meant to be an enforcer at the back, replacing Connor Goldson, but he has been nothing short of tame and embarrassing in defence.

Ferguson was left with no real choice but to start him, either, with John Souttar suspended for the game with Bilbao after picking up another booking against Fenerbahce last time out.

The defence has been a mess consistently, though, under both Ferguson and Philippe Clement, regularly conceding in the Scottish Premiership, regardless of opposition.

Propper only helping collect eight clean sheets in 24 games for Rangers is shocking, and his role in that cannot be disputed, given his admission that he found it hard to adjust.

McCoist has never hidden his love for Rangers on commentary, but he did actually admit that the decision was right by the law, so McManus certainly jumped the gun.

Despite all of the injustice in the game, the Bears held on for a huge draw to set up the return leg in Bilbao sensationally ahead of next week.
