Rangers takeover: ‘Frustrations’ emerge at Ibrox after 49ers development
Rangers may soon have new owners as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises continue talks at Ibrox, but there’s been some negativity around the potential deal.
Rumours of the US consortium’s takeover at Ibrox collapsing have been rubbished, and it seems like a matter of weeks before things are finalised.
The Americans are looking to buy controlling shares at the Gers, with Dave King currently holding the most at 12.96 per cent through New Oasis Asset Limited.
Supporters will hope the prospective new owners arrive soon, with the 49ers needing to decide on Barry Ferguson once everything is ratified, but there’s already a sense of frustration emerging from within the Glaswegian outfit.

49ers takeover saga at Ibrox frustrating Rangers directors
Some directors at the Light Blues are frustrated with the time the takeover is taking, Scott Burns says.
The Scottish journalist revealed that some members of the Bears’ hierarchy are growing weary as the US consortium continue working on a deal.
Major shareholders | Percentage |
New Oasis Asset Limited | 12.96 |
Douglas Park | 11.54 |
George Alexander Taylor | 10.22 |
Stuart Gibson | 9.53 |
John Bennett | 7.11 |
Borita Investments Limited | 6.69 |
Perron Investments LLC | 6 |
While there’s apparent discontent at Ibrox, Burns has admitted that Cavenagh and the 49ers are close to completing their acquisition.
Speaking on Hotline Live (7 April), the journalist said: “What I’m hearing is the deal is quite close to the finishing line. But for me, what I was told is that there may be some Rangers directors who are getting a bit frustrated at the time it’s now taking to complete this deal.”
Cavenagh and 49ers need to come to Ibrox soon
Ibrox witnessed a 2-0 loss to Hibernian on Saturday (5 April), highlighting the extent of problems at the Glaswegian outfit right now.
While Ferguson impressed many after beating Brendan Rodgers in the Old Firm derby, his standing in the race to be the next permanent manager has arguably dropped.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the US consortium coming in and making sweeping changes, including the departure of the interim boss after the end of the season.
Rangers are arguably in need of a revamp as they’ve fallen behind Celtic over the years.
The Gers have managed to win the Scottish Premiership once in the last 11 years and will likely miss out once again as they sit 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals.
Philippe Clement was to blame for most of the on-field issues at the Light Blues, but Ferguson has now undoubtedly realised that some players aren’t good enough to put on the historic shirt.
Fans will want to see heavy investment in the squad next summer, and the Bears will be expected to part ways with those surplus to requirements.
Cavenagh and the 49ers can’t come soon enough, as several essential decisions must be made before the end of the season.
