Rangers ‘beyond unacceptable’ after events at Ibrox
Rangers have endured a miserable domestic season, and their latest defeat at home to Hibernian was a particularly poor one.
The Gers have underperformed for most of the campaign, and sit 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Their last chance of salvaging anything from this season rests in the Europa League, but they face a tough challenge against La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao.
Their loss to Hibernian was significant for several reasons, and Barry Ferguson’s side have been slammed for their performance at Ibrox.

Rangers record fifth consecutive home defeat v Hibernian
Rangers’ form at Ibrox this season has been extremely concerning, and their meek display against Hibernian saw them lose 2-0 in front of their own fans.
This broke new grounds of failure in the record books, as it was their fifth home defeat in a row.
Rangers have performed well away from home in recent weeks, as they won at Celtic and Fenerbahce, but their dire home form has caused the fans to vote with their feet.
Opposition | Result |
Queen’s Park | 0-1 defeat |
St Mirren | 0-2 defeat |
Motherwell | 1-2 defeat |
Fenerbahce | 0-2 defeat |
Hibernian | 0-2 defeat |
Journalist Fraser Wilson has now slammed Rangers in the Daily Record (7 April), and highlighted how fans emptied Ibrox in the closing stages of the game.
“While Hibs fans partied Rangers supporters were up the road having hit the boos early. Five defeats on the spin at Ibrox? One is bad, two is clumsy, three is unacceptable. Four made history as the worst ever. But five? That brings home just how bad this Rangers side is,” he wrote.

Rangers can right recent wrongs in Europa League
While a lot of results this season have been unforgivable, the only way for Rangers to redeem themselves in this campaign is by pulling off an unlikely result in the Europa League.
Fans may be fed up for the most part heading into the first leg against Athletic Club at Ibrox, but if Rangers play on the front foot and score early, they can get the fans on side to help carry them to an underdog victory.
If Rangers somehow succeed in Europe, then this disastrous domestic campaign can be put behind them, but if they falter in front of their fans against Athletic Club, then they will face a mammoth task over the summer in trying to repair the relationship with their home support.
