Barry Ferguson ‘to leave’ after Rangers shock as incredible claim emerges

Barry Ferguson didn’t leave a great impression as Rangers lost 2-0 to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

David Gray’s team travelled to Ibrox on 5 April as they got three points off the hosts, with Dylan Levitt and Martin Boyle scoring.

Ferguson replaced Philippe Clement temporarily until the end of the season, and whether the Scotsman will be handed the reins permanently remains to be seen.

While the interim boss has pulled off some impressive results since being appointed head coach, the Light Blues’ overall record in recent games may not bode well for him, Billy Dodds, Neil McCann and Allan McGregor.

Rangers told not to continue with Ferguson after this season

Ferguson and his coaching staff don’t seem to be the right fit for the Glaswegian outfit, Fraser Wilson says.

The Daily Record journalist hasn’t been convinced by the interim management at the Bears after some of the team’s “shocking” performances of late.

Ferguson’s record as the Gers manager.

Wilson believes the Gers have incredibly gone backwards since the former Scotland international’s arrival in the dugout, leading to questions around his future.

Speaking on Hotline Live (6 April), the journalist said: “I think it’s quite a strong foursome, but I’m not convinced it’s right for Rangers.

“With seven games, they’ve been bad in five of them; they’ve been shocking in three of them. I think they’ve gone backwards in the last couple of months in performances and that’s incredible to say.”

Ferguson future will rely on Europa League success

Ibrox will host Athletic Club in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday (10 April), with the second leg set to take place in Spain.

Jack Butland has given Ferguson a massive dilemma ahead of the match after his consistent errors have led to several goals being conceded in recent matches.

It will be interesting to see whether the interim boss will opt to start Liam Kelly against Ernesto Valverde’s team.

Rangers seemingly have no chance of catching up to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, making the Europa League a crucial competition for them.

Getting knocked out of Europe will essentially end the Gers’ campaign, and they’ll have nothing left to play for in the remaining matches.

While chances of beating Athletic are slim, the Light Blues will have hope going into the fixture, as they’ve turned up for crunch games this season.

Ferguson hasn’t put himself in great stead, with the Bears struggling to put in dominating displays domestically.

The interim boss will be confident of staying as manager beyond the current campaign, though, if the Glaswegian outfit reaches the Europa League semi-finals.
