Jack Butland ‘set for Rangers axe’ after what happened at Ibrox
Jack Butland has been hit-or-miss for Rangers this season, and his time as their number one goalkeeper may be coming to an end very soon.
Rangers have quite literally nothing left to play for domestically, though they will still need to give a far better account of themselves than they did against Hibernian at the weekend.
The Europa League is their only remaining route to success, and Barry Ferguson’s side will have their attention fixated on achieving that.
However, for that to be the case, Ferguson may have to drop Butland for the remainder of the season, with Liam Kelly next to be called upon.

Ferguson needs to drop Butland at Rangers
Rangers’ defeat to Hibernian was the reason behind several concerns emerging, but perhaps none as prominent as that of Butland.
The Rangers ‘keeper was at fault for the first goal, while being suspect for the second, and it has happened on far too many occasions this season.
Rangers | Appearances | Goals conceded | Saves | Goals prevented |
Butland | 26 | 28 | 58 | -1.48 |
If the Gers are to have any chance of winning the Europa League, they need to have a stable defensive line, and that starts with the man in goal.
Concerns will be warranted as to whether Butland has the required ability or mindset to provide that, and Kelly could be awarded a chance to stake his claim for a place in Ferguson’s starting 11.

Ferguson cannot afford to take Butland risk
Butland has provided some heroic moments for Rangers, but if there is one position that is built on confidence, it is your keeper.
At the moment, Butland’s seems to have taken a hit, and a chance to come away from the spotlight could be what he needs to get back to his best.
Kelly will be eager to impress, and it may be a decision that Ferguson needs to make in order to find consistency among the Light Blues’ results and performances going forward.
