Ferguson shares what he told Rangers squad in Ibrox dressing room after loss v Hibs

Barry Ferguson did not hold back after watching his Rangers side fall to yet another home defeat, this time at the hands of Hibernian.

Rangers fell to a fifth successive loss at Ibrox in all competitions as goals from Dylan Levitt and Martin Boyle earned Hibs a 2-0 victory.

It was yet another poor display on home soil from Ferguson’s men, who prepared for their huge Europa League showdown against Athletic Bilbao in the worst possible manner.

Ferguson furious after Rangers loss v Hibs

Rather than try to defend his players on the back of the abject performance at Ibrox, interim boss Ferguson said it as it is in his post-match press conference.

As relayed in by Heart & Hand on X (5 April), Ferguson said he did not recognise his side and that some of them should not be at the club if they perform to this level.

Ferguson also went on to share what he told the players in the dressing room at full-time after a day to forget.

“God, where do I start? How long have we got? That’s not a Rangers team,” he said. “That’s miles away from a Rangers team. A few home truths were told after it.

“Celtic and Europe are easy to get up for. These are the bread and butter. You play for Glasgow Rangers. If you can’t get up for it you shouldn’t be here.

“I asked the players if they’re hurting the way I am and the fans are. There are places up for grabs. There will be changes on Thursday.”

Ferguson promises to make changes v Athletic Bilbao

Ferguson has made clear he is not happy and he intends to show that by making changes against Athletic Bilbao.

Asked directly if Jack Butland is one of those who will make way, having again disappointed against Hibernian, Ferguson did not give a direct answer.

However, he did say he’d personally told Butland he’d made an error and it may well be the caretaker boss makes a mammoth call next week.

Rangers in all competitions (FootyStats)

Rangers quite simply have not been good enough at home this season, with this setback against Hibs being the latest example.

As well as losing to Hibs, Rangers have also been on the end of defeats to Queen’s Park – the nadir – St Mirren, Motherwell and Fenerbahce.

That loss to Fenerbahce did not prove too costly as the Gers advanced on penalties, of course, but it still goes down as a loss in the record books.

Thankfully, there is nothing to play for in the league anyway. Ferguson needs to use this loss as a wake-up call ahead of a truly huge game next week.
